Concept stores are great for curated, one-stop shopping experiences, but – if you visit a lot of them – they can get quite boring quite fast. The same brands seem to populate the floors, the same design books are artfully laid out on the shelves, and the same limited edition sneakers displayed on the wall. Sure, it’s nice. But too often lacking a certain wow factor.
Enter the YME Universe, a new concept store that recently opened in the city center of Oslo. Thought up by Saint Martins graduate Nicolai Schaanning Larsen, this shopping temple occupies three floors and sells all the works: street fashion as well as high end designs, books, interior design items and accessories. What makes this place stand out from the crowd is the careful selection of brands as well as the rather spectacular interior design.
Among the brands sold at YME Concept Store are favorites like A.P.C., Norse Projects, Mary Katrantzou and Opening Ceremony. Each floor gives of a distinct vibe, there are clean white walls, dark corners and lots of wood and raw walls. Part of the shop is used to display artworks from upcoming and established designers, and come summer of 2015, the rooftop will be turned into a garden.
