Deep velvet chairs are placed in a cozy corner in front of a (very convincing) fake fire, fish-shaped water bottles are standing on the shelf, and dark wood furniture sinks into a heavy carpet. That’s what you see when you enter the small lobby to check into Sir Nikolai Hotel in Hamburg.

The rooms are more airy and light, but just as cozy. Sir Hotels,  Sir Nikolai’s parent company, produces its own line of premium bed sheets, and those are used here, together with designer chairs and a bar cart. All those features almost make you want to spend your entire stay here in your hotel room.

Only almost, though, because Sir Nikolai hotel is located between the old town (‘Altstadt’) and the brand new Hafencity district in the center of Hamburg, a perfect starting point to explore the city that many have on their lists as an up-and-coming city trip destination. Just within walking distance, you can reach the famous new jewel of the city, Elbphilharmonie, as well as must-sees like Speicherstadt, Landungsbrücken, and the Hamburg town hall.

Breakfast is delicious, with a huge variety of fresh juices, German bread, and small dishes like avocado on sourdough bread or Eggs Benedict made fresh to order.

Like the other three Sir hotels, Sir Nikolai offers its guest different experiences to book. The service, called ‘Sir Explore’, lets you book Barista classes, art strolls, and curated city tours with interesting locals. Pro tip: those are available to book even if you don’t stay at the hotel!
