Located in the heart of Zurich’s Altstadt neighborhood, the Marktgasse Hotel is part of a growing trend of contemporary, forward thinking design hotels that are re-defining the tourist experience in the Swiss city’s historic center.

The 39-rooms, two restaurants and bar that make up Marktgasse occupy what was once one of Zurich’s oldest inns, a 15th century building carefully restored in 2015.

Minimalist Scandinavian design mixed with Japanese purism is on display throughout the hotel, carefully mixed with restored heritage details that reveal the buildings’ rich past. Each of the rooms has a different size and looks different.

Taking an alternative approach to Zurich’s more traditional hotels, Marktgasse’s lobby, library and salon are fused into one interconnected space, creating a social, laid back space for guests and visitors. Furniture and lighting from brands such as Vitra, &tradition and Flos punctuate the space’s living room-type atmosphere.

Baltho, the hotel’s signature brasserie, serves seasonal menus mixing vegan and carnivorous cuisine with local and international flavors, while locals and guests meet at the adjacent Baltho Bar, serving fine cocktails and some of Zurich’s best specialty beers.

The culinary experience continues at Delish, Marktgasse’s second eatery, offering all day cuisine mixing vegetarian dishes and inventive salads in a sleek, black and white interior.
